3 Natural Oils That Are Good For Your Skin

Our skin needs 'food' to be healthy. This is why it is important to choose skincare products that contain as many natural ingredients as possible.

We have chosen three natural oils that have many beneficial properties to make your skin healthy, naturally! All three oils are essential ingredients in The Proper Soap Company soaps!

Almond Oil

Almond Oil used in food and skincare products comes from sweet almonds that grow on a particular type of tree called Prunus dulcis. That's why if you look at the list of ingredients of our Almond Oil Soap or any other cosmetics that contain it, you will see the reference to sweet almond.

You may wonder, what are other types of almonds? There are also bitter almonds that come from a different type of almond tree. However, those almonds cannot be consumed and their oil cannot be applied directly to the skin due to their toxic compounds. They have some use in medicine but only after thorough processing that removes the harmful ingredients.

The use of sweet Almond Oil for its skin benefits has its roots in Chinese medicine and it has been used as a nourishing and healing oil for centuries.

Skin benefits

Almond Oil is a fantastic moisturiser. It soothes and protects dry and irritated skin. Almond Oil contains vitamin E and vitamin A. Vitamin E helps to protect skin from sun damage but also has anti-ageing properties smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin A helps fight acne. Almond Oil is hypoallergenic and is suitable for sensitive skin. It also helps in treatment of eczema and psoriasis. It can even help fight dark circles under your eyes!

Almond Oil can be used as carrier oil for essential oils that are usually too harsh to be used directly on the skin. Simply add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to Almond Oil and use as required.

Avocado Oil

Avocado Oil is full of antioxidants, vitamins, and fatty acids that work wonders for the skin. It nourishes and moisturises skin as well as protects it from damage. Our Organic Avocado and Olive Oil soap, for example, is super gentle and will bring your skin all of its benefits.

Avocado oil is obtained by pressing avocado pulp. If you eat avocados regularly why not use the inside of the avocado peel and massage it into your skin before throwing it away!

Skin benefits

Thanks to high antioxidant content, Avocado Oil can protect skin from sunburn and helps relieve skin inflammation. Antioxidants are molecules that protect skin from free radicals. Free radicals are basically molecules that interact with other elements in our bodies with the harmful effect. They can form due to factors such as air pollution, cigarette smoke, too low or too high oxygen levels, and more.

Avocado Oil contains vitamins A, E, and D. In addition to the benefits of vitamins A and E stated above, vitamin D helps in skin's cell growth and regeneration. This makes vitamin D essential in slowing down skin's ageing process.

Avocado Oil is also rich in fatty acid, and in particular oleic acid which promotes production of collagen in skin and helps during skin healing process.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba Oil comes from the seed of the Jojoba plant. It grows in Arizona, Southern California and Mexico. Its properties resemble the properties of our skin's sebum. Sebum is an oily liquid that is produced by our skin to keep it protected and moisturised. Various environmental and biological factors can slow down sebum production, ageing is one of them, and this can lead to dry skin. Jojoba Oil can balance both deficit and over production of sebum.

Jojoba Oil contains vitamins B and E, and large quantities of iodine. Most of the soaps in our range will contain Jojoba Oil.

Skin benefits

Jojoba Oil moisturises the skin but also, thanks to its iodine content, it helps in healing wounds and bruises. Due to its ability to balance sebum production, it can help in the treatment of eczema and acne.

Jojoba Oil helps in regeneration of the skin and it is also non-allergenic. It contains high levels of antioxidants. Thanks to its chemical structure it helps hydrate skin by forming a think layer of moisture on its surface without clogging pores.

Jojoba Oil is also a great carrier oil for essential oils.

All our soaps contain one or three of the above natural oils to leave your skin beautifully moisturised and protected.
